Loot boxes and chests in your game
How ready-made iDos Games loot boxes work - chests opened for currency, a chest item or a key, ten at once, rolled by the server - and how to set them up in the dashboard.
Loot boxes are a ready-made chests system: the player opens a chest for currency, a chest item or a key, and the server rolls what falls out. The roll cannot be faked from the game, and every opening shows the rewards flying out of the box.
What the player sees
- A card for every way to open a chest: currencies, a chest item, a key.
- "Open" and "Open x10", where the chest limit and the balance allow.
- The opening animation: the box shakes while the server rolls, bursts, and the rewards fly out.
- A badge with the number of chests the player can open with the items they hold.
Ten at once, up to the chest limit and your balance.
How it works
Step 01Add the system to your project
Ask the AI coder: "Add chests". It installs the ready system; the tab appears once a chest is set up.
Step 02Set it up in the dashboard
Open the dashboard, pick your project and go to Live Operations → v2 → Lootbox.
- Create a loot box: what can fall out and with what weight.
- Add the ways to open it: a price in currencies, a chest item or a key, and the maximum per opening.
The AI button on the page opens an assistant: describe what you need, it proposes changes, and you review them and press Save.
Step 03Test and release
Check the system in the test version of your app. Settings go to the live app as a separate action - see publishing and links.
For developers
Loot boxes work through client.lootbox in @idosgames/core.
// Open a chest ten times with the selected price option
const res = await client.lootbox.open('gold_chest', 10, 'gems')
if (!res.ok) return showError(res.error)
// What fell out is already applied to the balances and the inventory in the SDK cache- Never roll on the client: the result comes only from the server response.
- Disable the button while the request is in flight: every call is a separate opening.
Every field is described in the lootbox-system skill, served by the SDK MCP server.
Frequently asked questions
Can I show the chances?
Yes. The chest contents and weights are in the title settings, so the game can show them next to the chest.
Can a chest be opened with a key from the inventory?
Yes. A chest or key item opens this screen with the matching chest.
