How to make a game with ChatGPT

Two ways to make a real browser game with ChatGPT: connect it to iDos Games over MCP to set up the economy, assets and releases, or let Codex build the code with the platform SDK - with hosting and a backend included.

To make a game with ChatGPT, create the game on iDos Games and connect ChatGPT to it as a connector: then it can set up the store, quests and leaderboards, generate assets and deploy builds. If you want ChatGPT to write the code too, use Codex with the iDos Games MCP servers: it builds the project with the platform SDK, and the game goes live at its own link.

Asking a chat to "write a game" usually ends with a single HTML file that runs on your computer and nowhere else. The missing part is a backend and hosting. iDos Games gives ChatGPT both as tools it can call.

Step 01Create the game

Open Create, describe the game and answer a few questions. The AI coder builds a playable starting version - see create with AI. ChatGPT will work with this app by its name.

Step 02Connect ChatGPT

Add a custom connector with the address https://site.idosgames.com/api/v2/mcp. On first use ChatGPT asks you to sign in to iDos Games and pick the apps it may work with. No API keys are needed. The exact menu path is shown on idosgames.com/mcp.

Step 03Ask for the game's economy and content

Write in plain words:

  • "Create a store with three coin packs and a free daily gift."
  • "Make three daily quests: for wins, for purchases and for upgrades."
  • "Generate an icon for the sword item and put it into the store."

ChatGPT changes the app's settings and generates images, sound and music. What it can do is listed in building with AI agents over MCP.

Step 04Let Codex write the code

For changes in the code, connect Codex to both servers:

Terminal
codex mcp add idosgames --url https://site.idosgames.com/api/v2/mcp
codex mcp add idosgames-registry -- npx -y @idosgames/mcp

Then ask it to load the skill idosgames-getting-started and build your app. It uses the ready modules and the TypeScript SDK instead of writing a backend from scratch.

Step 05Deploy

Build the game, upload the build and deploy it.

The game opens at its own address, and you can publish it to the idosgames.com catalog in the dashboard.

About the author

Founder of iDos Games

Lifelong gamer and tech enthusiast. Since 2020 I have been building and shipping cross-platform games and apps, and today I'm building iDos Games: a platform where anyone can make a game with AI, put it live at its own link and earn from it. Here I share how to make games faster and easier than you'd think.

Frequently asked questions

Can ChatGPT make a whole game by itself?

ChatGPT writes code well, but a real game also needs accounts, saved progress, an economy and hosting. Connected to iDos Games, it gets all of this as ready parts and a place where the game goes live.

Do I need an API key to connect ChatGPT?

No. You add iDos Games as a connector, sign in in the browser and choose which apps ChatGPT may work with.

Does the same setup work with Claude or Cursor?

Yes. Both iDos Games MCP servers work with any MCP client; the setup for each one is on idosgames.com/mcp.
